Top 3 Red Tones this Season

Many of my clients like to add red to make their colors more rich for the winter season. It can be overwhelming deciding while you are looking at all the color swatches at the salon. Consider these awesome red tones this season.

The first important thing to figure out is how noticeable and vibrant you want your red. What do you feel comfortable with and what can you get away with at work? Some red tones are considered somewhat natural and can be acceptable in many workplaces. Other reds can be incredibly vibrant and may be too intense for a conservative workplace.

If you want to stay on the conservative side and still play with some red, consider a warm chocolate red brown. Its nice to have a deeper, more neutral chocolate brown that won't clash with a yellow skin tone at the root (or the top) of the hair. Through the ends, its beautiful to alternate this chocolate brown with a red brown in thick sections to create depth with a natural blended feel.

If you are thinking about a fun, fashion color red, check out a vibrant cherry red. To make it more current and not so 2010, deepen the roots to a deep burgandy fading into a bright cherry. Adding some violet into the cherry tones tends to give more richness and looks better on most skin tones unless you are very fair. This color is definitely more intense and can be hard to keep up with since vibrant reds tend to fade fast.

Another red option that is still fun but may be acceptable for some work places is a deep violet red color with a touch of balayage rooted pink rose highlights. The violet red can still be considered a 'natural' color for the workplace but adding a touch of subtle rose highlights blended and away from the scalp can give a gorgeous twist.

Il share some tips for red hair. It can fade fast so make sure you prebook at least every 6 weeks to refresh. You can ask your stylist to make you a custom red condtioner like Evo Fab Pro to lightly refresh your color at home once a week. Keep in mind when coloring your hair red, blonde is not an easy color to transition into afterwards. Also, make sure to use sulfate free shampoo and cold water while washing to keep the color vibrant. Lastly, make sure to not use white towels, white pillow cases, or white shirts for at least a few weeks after the color to avoid staining!

What tone of red would you have fun with?
